WELCOME : The Very First Slice


I'm Janey Green, the face behind
Slice-of-Slim.

Slice of Slim is my blog. It's about simple, exciting, vibrant food - packed with flavour, which I create using low-fat ingredients.
It contains my own recipes and inspirations, which will take you on an unexpected journey of discovery and happiness, as you realise you CAN eat amazing, healthy food without feeling like you are missing out in any way. When you taste my dishes, you won't even realise you are eating so virtuously!
The blog is aimed at people who follow the Weightwatchers plan, but hopefully won't alienate those of you who don't.

 I adore food. Since losing a significant amount of weight (4 1/2 stone or 62 pounds) - the majority of that with WeightWatchers, I am more obsessed with it than ever...I literally think about it and talk about it all day!
I think that's part of the success though, as all the planning and effort pays off with consistent weightloss...and the confidence that the weight will stay off for good. (I have maintained my weight loss since October 2010).

My husband had a heart attack in 2011 (aged 50), which prompted him to take responsibility for his weight. He follows the WeightWatchers plan and has also lost 4 1/2 stone. We have dramatically changed the WAY that we eat, but still get excited about WHAT we eat.
I find so many of the T.V chefs I watch and love use SO MUCH BUTTER...AND CREAM...AND SALT! It is really not compulsory for creating fabulous food. This is another reason why all my recipes are low-fat and low-salt.

When you are losing weight, it's exhilarating  because you can see your body transforming. People pay you compliments and it's an exciting process to become healthier and fitter. You have to buy new clothes as you shrink in size.
Maintaining your weight loss is the tough part, because you have to do that for the rest of your life, and it can feel quite daunting.



Slice of Slim aims to retain the excitement of eating. It's written for people who love their food - but in a way that won't sabotage their weight loss or maintenance efforts. I do this by presenting low-fat dishes in new and inventive ways...and it's not all virtuous...there are plenty of treats built in and lots of fun along the way!

Slice of Slim is the weight loss buddy you want to talk to incessantly about food and the issues you face while on your journey, or trying to maintain your weight loss.
I have been there, and I understand.
I still deal with my natural greediness and lust for food every day, and will show you my methods of tackling these potential stumbling blocks. I'm honest though, and will get on my soapbox to make a point - especially if it's to quash excuse-making!

Slice of Slim contains gorgeous 'stage-by-stage' photographs I take of my own recipes, as I make them.




 This is the food I prepare on a daily basis for my own family and friends.
All my recipes have propointed ingredients for Weightwatchers members. I calculate the propoints by running every recipe I create through the official 'Recipe Builder' tool on the WeightWatchers members website, so my calculations are as accurate as possible.
I also estimate the calorie content as accurately as possible, so if you are not a Weightwatchers member you won't miss out.

'USEFUL STUFF'- kitchen implements, gadgets and equipment to help you cook healthily
or more easily.


'CUPBOARD LOVE'- invaluable store cupboard ingredients, worth keeping in stock.


'SMASH AND GRAB'- fast ideas and quick recipes for sweet and savoury dishes that you will be eating within 5 minutes of walking in the door, (to save you from that packet of biscuits!)



'SOMETHING FOR NOTHING'- where all my zero-propointed recipes will be listed.
So, even on the days where you have 'blown the budget', or you are trying to save some propoints for a social occasion, you won't need to go hungry!

New categories such as FAKEAWAY - all your favourite takeaway dishes, slimmified, are constantly added as the blog evolves.

Hi Janey, loving your recipes with the ProPoints! I will get through them all eventually. I've given a link to your Facebook page to my daughter, step DIL and my granddaughter. 2 are at their weight, but my daughter, like me still has a couple of stone to lose.

I belong to a gardening forum, on which we have a healthy lifestyle club, where we weigh in each week and keep each other motivated.
